F.I.G. stands for the Fethiye International Group. “International” because we are supported by people of many nationalities.

Our aims are simple … ‘To promote the education and welfare of children in the locality of Fethiye, through fund raising and voluntary activities.’  We do this through various activities and provide help ranging from bursaries for university students to books for village schools.

Our major fundraising activities are:-

FRIDAY SALES which are held between 10.30am and 2pm every Friday at FETAV, where you can purchase second hand clothes (some nearly new) and many other items.  You can also exchange reading books; all funds raised from this and our other activities go for the benefit of local children, we have virtually no expenses as all our helpers are volunteers, why don’t you become one too!
 
& CAFÉ FIG
Café Fig is held just two minutes from our offices next to the sarcophagus to the Tadım Café where we meet, on the harbour side so not too far to walk.  We offer filter coffee and Nescafe, tea and Earl Grey tea, cakes, and biscuits and a relaxed atmosphere for chatting, reading, playing Okey or Backgammon, between 11 am and 1 pm every Wednesday.

We now have an offer to teach Bridge, from Pat and Terry, so those interested please make yourselves known at Café FIG, two students can be taught at the same time.

Café Fig is closed over the Christmas/New Year period since many of our regulars are away but we re-open on Wednesday January 17th.  You can arrange to meet your friends at café FIG when in town and stay for a chat and some refreshments, make new friends too.  Tadim café provides excellent food if you want to stay on for a meal before moving on.

SOCIAL OCCASIONS
The Horizon Restaurant, overlooking Fethiye bay, has very kindly offered to pay 10% of their guests’ bills to FIG.  All you have to do is bring your bill to our offices in town.

The daytime views are superb, they are open all day and if you feel like visiting for a tea break or a meal, just call Semih on 0555 422 8291 or Ibrahim on 0532 612 6078 for transport from near the quayside up to them.

For Quiz fans
Don’t forget the quiz at the Orient Express restaurant in Çaliş, held on alternate Sunday evenings.  Run by Jo from Thomas Cook (the Ann Robinson of Çaliş) with the entry fee of 1 YTL  going directly to FIG funds.

A word of caution
To all those who want to raise money for any local charity or organisation.  Please note that there are strict laws to be followed in this respect and to avoid falling foul of them and to keep all concerned protected, it is imperative that you first talk to the organisation for whom you intend to raise funds.  You should obtain their written permission/agreement for your event and arrange how and when you will pass over the money raised, for which you must receive a receipt.
Raffles as we know them in the UK, strictly need permission from the lottery authorities in Ankara which needs to be applied for about 6 months in advance.  Draws, where everyone receives a prize, even if some are small are permissible.  Happy fund raising!
