Dalyan Caretta Run has been held for the second time in the Ortaca district of
Dalyan, Muğla. A remarkable total of 1200 male and female athletes took part in
the 18-65 age group, over three difficult trails of 5, 14 and 21
kilometres. There was impressive participation
in the public 3 kilometres run. Hüseyin Karaçelik, the Mayor of Ortaca, started
the run, which began at the Cumhuriyet Square in Dalyan.
The mayor said the competition had met with great interest and continued: “We organize activities like this one to promote our region and to prolong the tourism season and are pleased with the interest being shown in them. We intend to continue these events on a national and international basis for the promotion of Dalyan. I would like to thank all the participants.”
Yücel Okutur, the Chairman of DOKTOB, remarked that the Dalyan Caretta Run had become a brand for the town and that that its aim was to celebrate local nature. Okutur added that they intended to continue this event in the coming years.
In the 21 km marathon Oktay Fırat won the men’s race and Ayşegül Yılmaz came first in the women’s race. In the 14 km run the winners were Mehmet Aydingör and Selma Akgün. In the 5 km run the winners were Fıkrı Onur Turan and Peri Su Özgen.
DOKTOB and Intervalevents organized the event. Among the supporters were the Turkish Federation of Athletics, Muğla Governorship, Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, Ortaca Governorship, Ortaca Municipality, Muğla Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Muğla Department of Services for Youth and Sports.
Medals and cups were presented to the winners in an award ceremony.
