Holidaymakers Dale Davies (52) and his girl
friend Anita Jonson, from city of Lincoln in the UK, were on holiday in Hisarönü
and while there, the couple decided to get married.
They told Erkan Tümen, the manager of the hotel where they were staying, that they loved the idea of a Turkish-style wedding, so Tümen organized a Turkish wedding ceremony for them. The couple went on a tour of the market in Hisarönü in a horse drawn carriage, during which the bridegroom tipped the stallholders who gathered round them. In the town centre the couple alighted from the carriage and danced to the accompaniment of traditional Turkish pipes and drums. During their performance they were congratulated and applauded by people who were eating at the surrounding restaurants. The couple then returned to the hotel, where it is said they continued to party.
The bridegroom Dale Davies told the media that they came to Turkey every year for their holiday and had seen a Turkish wedding that had greatly impressed them and they wanted to have a similar ceremony. Davies said that they had spent their holidays in Turkey for the previous 20 years and had grown fond of Hisarönü and Turkish traditions.
The bride, Anita Jonson said that she had enjoyed riding on a horse drawn carriage while musicians played the pipes and drums and that she would remember her wedding for the rest of her life.
Erkan Tümen, the manager of the hotel, provided the following information: “They came to Turkey for the first time 20 years ago. While there, they had once seen a Turkish-style wedding and had loved it. We told them about our customs and traditions and they were fascinated. Today we organized a wedding for them with a horse drawn carriage and traditional pipes and drums and they toured the streets of Hisarönü. They were delighted; they had not expected anything like this. Tradesmen and tourists who were in the streets joined in the celebration.”
