Marbling is the art of printing multi-colored swirls or marble-like patterns on paper or fabric. The patterns are made by first floating coloured pigments on the surface of a special liquid and then placing paper or fabric carefully onto the colors to absorb them. Special brushes and paints are used.

Marbling has a history dating back to the 9th and 10th century and is an art where you can create visual wonders and express different emotions; there are many artists involved in this genre in Turkey.

Marbling is often called the dance and harmony of the colours on the water’s surface. It is called ebru in Turkish, which is derived from the Persian word ebri, which means cloud.

Hatice Akcan, owner of Alper Kırtasiye (Alper Stationery), and instructor, Yasemin Oran, will be holding Marbling workshops for art-lovers who are interested in learning this ancient skill.

You can be part of a group course or have private lessons.

The first course will be held on the 26/27th of November 2016 and the cost is 55TL, which also covers the cost of the materials used. The participants are allowed to take their creations home at the end of the day.  The course will be held between 10:00 and 16:00 hours at the hobby workshop of Alper Stationery at the junction of the Tuesday Market.  For registration and other details you can contact Saim Bey at 0535 896 93 73. Alper Staionery also plan to hold courses on wood painting and olive oil painting in the future.
