Off-Road Festival was organized at Fethiye, Muğla, recently at the Akdeniz
Off-Road Park in the Esenköy District. A total of 80 vehicles took part from Muğla,
Antalya, Denizli and Konya competed with each other. The race was organized in
four categories where the drivers competed with each other, trying to overcome
mud, pits and bends.
The festival was organized to commemorate Yılmaz Kılçar, the founder of the Fethiye Off-Road Club who died three months ago in a traffic accident. A large number of spectators watched the competition.
İsmail Kılçar, the President of the Fethiye Off-Road Club, said they were devastated by the loss of his brother three months ago and that it had been his dream to organize the Fethiye Off-Road festival. “Our wish was to make his dream come true,” he said. “We dedicate this festival to him. This is our first attempt and we are pleased with the attendance. We want to continue the festival in coming years and make it a regular event.”
Erol Karagöz, the President of the Antalya Off-Road Club, said that he had come with a large group from the club to commemorate Yılmaz Kılçar. Özge Özdemir, the only woman participant in the festival, said that she had come here as a member of the Antalya Off-Road Club.
Özdemir added that the attendance was excellent and that she was really thrilled by the driving. “I feel very lucky,” she remarked. “I am the only female member of my club and they support me wholeheartedly. Technically I am not very familiar with the details of this sport. I was encouraged by the club to take part. Any woman with or without a car can do this sport. We are ready to help anyone in Antalya who is interested.”
