Here and in the vicinity, some families will not have enough funds to send their children to school, probably being unable to buy even defective and torn notebooks. Some kids will wander around apprehensively, due to the uniforms they have put on. They will refrain from asking for a new pair of shoes in order not to distress their fathers Their only chance lies in some people recalling the time when they were in the same position once or the assistance of a few charitable individuals. If you are one of them and wish to come to the aid of some by one way or another, take heed of our words so that the lives of a few kids may be altered So that these children will be trained along the road leading to the future.

BLUE BIRD SOLIDARITY PROJECT

We have started on this road about a year ago to create a bridge between the materially and morally needy and those who would lend their support to such people. Our belief in our success in this venture is enhanced by your contributions growing from day to day. In the days where material possessions overlap the humanitarian values, the word solidarity may sound like a dream to some. We have got together as followers of Atatürk, and as contemporary and secular individuals. Hand in hand and in consensus, we are increasing in an undulating fashion, saying WE instead of I. Let our road be lighted up and accessible, assimilating under the principles of Atatürk, as sincere admirers of Atatürk, and aspiring to achieve a contemporary and decent life for everyone.

To begin with, we were only a handful sharing these thoughts. We have grown and set up our route. First of all we formed groups and undertook certain tasks. We were all volunteers in our venturesWe have a board of directors and a chairman. However, we had decided from the very first day to give priority to the name of our association instead of our own names. We have set up an office behind the Bahriye Üçok Park There we recorded the relative applications, checked their authenticity, searched for potential contributors and set up units to relay the donations to the people concerned. The true nature of information furnished by the applicants were verified through our committees set up in districts. We also sought the help of our local committees to establish the real needy in the locations who are too proud to approach us directly. We know that, as the saying goes, the arm breaks and remains in the sleeve, the real needy are plentiful, and the aim of our association is to reach out to them. We have worked incessantly for the last six months. As a first step, we tried to help the students and the ailing people. We sought for LPG tanks for those who did not have them, refrigerators for those who could not buy them, medicines for the ailing, and acted as a bridge for those who could provide them, ensuring that they were duly delivered. Another principle of our association, which we followed meticulously, has been not to give cash to anyone–except for scholarships. Therefore, where we could not acquire donations in kind, we bought them with the monetary contributions and delivered them. We never gave cash to anyone. We received household goods for women trying to stand on their own feet, shoes for the babies, and delivered them duly. We acted as intermediaries for those who wished to help out but could not reach out to the needy. We procured scholarships for students enrolled in schools located in other cities Similarly we provided school uniforms for those who could not afford them We worked hand in hand and in consensus with selective people with generous hearts.

However, the needy are so much in number that we need to grow more We need people who will work with us, who will lend their support to us and extend to us their financial support even if they are unable to join us physically In other words, people who will work like us We await everyone, Turkish or foreigner, who wishes to come to the aid of an individual We wish to underline that this means social solidarity, not a favour. Therefore, we are not publicizing the people we are lending assistance. We need new Blue Birds who share our thoughts and who will take wing along with us. People who say WE, not I.

Primarily, we need help with scholarships. If you wish to provide scholarships, you can make a regular monthly depositeven 5 YTL-to our bank accounts. Or, if you so wish, you can deposit a certain amount of cashspecifying that this is for a scholarship–. Thirdly, you can choose a student and meet his educational expenses. On our part, we can only investigate the success and failure of the students in your name. Or we can follow up on irregular payments of the scholarships.

Our educational unit investigates all applications for scholarships and list them in order of their priority. It facilitates the acquaintance of the donor with the student. However, if the donor does not wish to be known by the recipient we make the payments through the account of our association. The success of the students under scholarship is followed up by our association during each semester and the deposited funds are transferred to the account of the students,

BREAD ON RACK CAMPAIGN

Another of our campaigns is bread on rack at the bakeries you go to regularly. At every bakery carrying the logo of our association, as you buy your bread, you indicate the number of loaves you wish to donate and tell the baker bread is on rack. The loaves you set aside are taken away by the needy with no ado. In this way, people who cannot afford to buy even a loaf are able to get their bread which is paid for by someone else. We hope for your participation.
