25 tons of Cedar Seeds will be sewn before the end of 2009

Motivated by the loss of thousands of square metres of forested areas due to fires every year, the Fethiye and Kemer Directorships of Forestry Administrations started a campaign of planting saplings by the labourers. The employees were furnished with theoretical details on saplings by experts as well as practicing what they have learned. Within the framework of the campaign, 32 thousand saplings were planted by 60 workers at the Gökalan Area of the Karaçulha Settlement .The campaign will come to an end by the planting of 220 thousand saplings on an area of 150 hectares within the boundaries of Eşen Central and Güneydağı Offices. According to information furnished by Reşat Tunç, the Director of the Fethiye Forestry Administration, the campaign covers the planting of 220 thousand saplings on an area of 150 hectares and the sewing of 25 tons of cedar seeds in an area of 100 hectares Tunç explained that during 2009 saplings of red pine, cedar, stone pine, Mediterranean cypress, carob, fig, walnut, acacia and laurel trees were planted in the course of 2009 and that it was planned to sew 25 tons of cedar seeds would be put in a the feet of Babadağ. Tunç further pointed out that 10 thousand saplings of juniper tees would also be planted in the same area before the year end. Meanwhile it was ascertained that more than 4 million saplings would be planted throughout Mugla before the end of December. Most of these saplings are of trees which are resistant against fire and that they will be planted on forested areas which have been destroyed or devastated by fires. |
