Category: Local NewsAdd Time: Oca 17th, 2010Author: adminA Major Arrangement in the Fethiye Traffic
The Fethiye Municipality is activating the junction project for re-arrangement of the traffic flow in town, for which the contract was awarded a year ago. Within the framework of the plan prepared by Istanbul Transportation. Communication and Safety Technologies, Inc., (ISBAK), the new arrangement will start from the Çalış Junction and will continue as far as the Ovacık Bridge and Mugla Intersection.
The Fethiye Municipality took the first step in the re-arrangement of the Fethiye traffic on the 13th January, 2009, by the contract awarded in connection with invitation to bids. ISBAK who paid 99 thousand TL drew up a new transportation plan, highlighting the shortcomings in the flow of traffic at junctions, main avenues and streets in Fethiye. Subsequent to the approval of the project, the Fethiye Municipality started working on the re-arrangement of the junctions in the town. The teams firstly carried out the work at the Çalış Junction and re-arranged this intersection where accidents occurred frequently. With the new arrangement, the halt at the junction is minimized with controlled turns to the right and to the left. Especially during summer months the Çalış junction is most active due to the large number of expatriates living in that region and it is now ready for the new tourism season.
During the forthcoming days the work will continue at the junctions of the Ovacık Bridge and Mugla intersection, informs Fikret Kaynak, the Director of Traffic in Fethiye, adding that it will afford Fethiye a fresh breath. Kaynak explained that there were 80 thousand vehicles in Fethiye and the traffic became quite heavy at junctions, especially at the Mugla intersection and thg Ovacık Bridge. Fikret Kaynak pointed out that these two junctions were interconnected and work would be carried out simultaneously at these two points, adding, “Work will start in the forthcoming days and will be finished before the summer season begins. Especially pockets will be built at the junction of the Ovacık Bridge to enable vehicles to make their turns into the town without entering the intersection. With this we intend to lighten the burden on the junctions. As for turns to the right, they will not be dependent on the traffic lights. Furthermore, a part of the DSI channel underneath the junction will be closed to create new pockets, thus widening the road.”
The Director of Traffic in Fethiye, Fikret Kaynak, explained that the Mugla intersection would be re-arranged when the work at the Ovacık Bride was almost completed, because these two intersections were interconnected and therefore activities would be carried out simultaneously on both.
