The agreement for the additional 30 million dollars from the DVB and Vakıfbank Consortium, initiated by German Hypo Vereinsbank (HVB), has been signed today. Hüseyin Arslan, the President of the Board of Directors of the ATM Airport Operations Co. Ltd, stated that they had previously used 120 million dollars credit for the construction of the new International Terminal Building at the Dalaman Airport, which was completed in two years and opened for service early in July, and their credit was now raised to 150 million dollars with the present addition, granted on the basis of the guarantee of their project. The repayment of the credit will be made in 8 years, with no payment for the first 2 years. The International Terminal Building at Dalaman has been constructed to serve 10 million passengers and an airport hotel will be constructed, the runways and the taxi stands will be renovated with the additional credit. Arslan pointed out that in the first contract of build-operate-transfer, the rights for operation was for 7 seasons which is now increased to 9 seasons with the additional investment Arslan stated further that ATM is a joint venture of Aksa, Turkuaz and Manas companies and had constructed an international airport at Kazakhstan previously; that the Dalaman Airport was their first operation in Turkey and that they were also interested in investing at the Bodrum Airport. Arslan said that the Dalaman Airport was a prominent one for tourism which was unfavourable affected by such incidents as the bird flu and the World Football Championship, but that there has been a significant increase in incoming tourists starting with July. Arslan commented as follows: Sales of accommodations are made to tour operators ın February and March when the press carried exaggerated news items about incidents of the bird flu as a result of which there had been a significant decrease in the sales prices in Turkey. Consequently, tourists with limited economical means could also purchase tours for Turkey. This is somewhat detrimental to the income expected from the international lines. However, we are hoping that it will be better next year. |
