Excursion Terrace to Babadağ
Babadağ, which has a prominent role in the promotion of Ölüdeniz and Fethiye and which plays host to paragliding, is now duly evaluated at long last. With the recent widening and recreation of the road to Babadağ at an altitude of approximately 2 thousand metres, which has contributed to Ölüdeniz becoming a centre of paragliding, new concepts are now under consideration.
Due to increasing popularity of paragliding, those climbing up the summit in jeeps faced great problems of transportation almost gave up but then felt obliged to jump because it was even worse coming down the poor road. Nowadays with the improved road conditions, Babadağ has become a valuable asset.
With the renovation of the road, in addition to fans of paragliding, Babadağ will serve to those who wish to watch the panorama from an altitude of 2 thousand metres. Within the framework of the project under consideration, transportation will be provided with minibuses reaching the summit in 20 minutes, and, after looking at the panorama, the passengers will return to Ölüdeniz with the same minibuses.
Last week the Governor of Mugla, Dr. Ahmet Altıparmak, came to Fethiye for some meetings and opening ceremonies and organized a meeting with the members of the press. He pointed out that with the renovation on the Babadağ road, transportation had become easier and instead of Babadağ being at the disposal of paragliders only, some projects were under consideration for those who wished to see Fethiye and its environs from that altitude.
Pursuant to renovation of the road by Melsa, under the auspices of the Mugla Governorship, the summit could now be reached with minibuses in 20 minutes and citizens wishing to look at the panorama from that altitude could now go up Babadağ with regular minibus services, said Governor Altıparmak, adding that work was continuing on this subject. Altıparmak also pointed out that a portion of the Babadağ road and the jumping tracks were covered with cobblestones, and commented as follows: “Work will continue to renew the image of Babadağ. In addition to paragliding, we wish to organize tours and regular minibus services for the promotion of this location, to enable our citizens to enjoy the beautiful panorama, That also will represent a great potential. The construction of a telpher is still under consideration.”
