Governor Ahmet Altıparmak, coming to Fethiye from Mugla to attend the meeting of the Union of Services, evaluated the telpher project to be set up at Ölüdeniz, Babadağ, which is a renowned paragliding centre of the world. This project has been under consideration for the last 3 years. Ahmet Altıparmak, the Governor of Mugla, said, As it has been on the agenda for such a long time, I was under the impression that everything was ready for the project. However, we have all seen that nothing has been done about the Telpher Project at Babadağ so far, adding that he has asked all the organizations and departments concerned to take action and a file will be prepared to take the matter up with the Private Environmental Preservation (ÖÇK).
Ölüdeniz Babadağ is the second most popular one among the paragliding centres of the world, with its unique panorama. It has become a fact that the project of constructing a telpher here will take years. The track at Babadağ is a difficult one. In order to ease the ascents and descents, as well as to afford the local and foreign tourists an opportunity to enjoy the unique panorama from the summit of Babadağ, a Telpher Project has been under consideration for almost three years and an effort is now being made to take the first serious steps in this connection. The Governor of Mugla, Ahmet Altıparmak, confessed that he was misinformed about the development of this project and underlined that the work should be carried out in various stages, saying, Unfortunately, in Turkey nothing is done step by step. We asked for gradual achievements on the Babadağ Telpher Project. As it was talked about for so long, I was under the impression that everything was ready. However, we have seen that nothing is ready. Nowadays, all the offices concerned, including the Title Deed and Cadastral Surveys, are working to prepare a file. The units in question are doing what is expected of them
Once the file is completed, we shall approach the ÖÇK. When we are finished with the ÖÇK, invitations will be sent out for bids. This is a long term project. It cannot be established in a day or two. First we have to resolve the issue of ownership. Right now some companies presented their views on the type of project they plan for this region. It may be a build-operate-transfer model or a corporate system. One way or anther, we shall resolve this matter.
