MINISTRY TO HAVE THE FINAL SAY ABOUT UZUMLU
Category: Local NewsAdd Time: Kas 30th, 2009Author: admin The Ministry of Environment and Forestry will have the final say about the cement factory which is planned to be established at Fethiye. Governor of Mugla, Lütfi Yiğenoğlu, stated that the file on this matter has been forwarded to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Meanwhile there is a growing reaction on the part of villagers in connection with the cement factory which the Urantaş Company plans to build in the vicinity of Koru, Incirköy and Yeşil Üzümlü villages. The villagers protested the ÇED format and asked for the ÇED meetings to be held in their own villages, with a revaluation of the land allocated to the factory from the viewpoint of olive growing and agricultural production, as well as a renewed measurement. The villagers had organized a demonstration in front of the Offices of the Mugla Governor a month ago and submitted their petitions protesting the ÇED report. The authorities at the City Directorship of Agriculture had measured the land and drawn up a report approving the establishment of the cement factory. Thereupon the villagers had brought in a cartographer who had measured the distance between the proposed factory and the olive groves qt İncirköy as 550 metres. Lütfi Yiğenoğlu, the Governor of Mugla, stated that the file has been forwarded to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Governor Yiğenoğlu spoke as follows: The villagers want to have the measurements renewed in connection with the projected cement factory. The file on the cement factory has been forwarded to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry about a week ago. Anna Özberk, a British citizen living at İncirköy said, We shall do all we can to prevent the establishment of the cement factory. If the factory is approved by the Ministry, all the residents in our village will go to Ankara by buses and demonstrate in front of the Ministry. Pursuant to the news about the projected factory, some foreign nationals put up their houses for sale. We are being expelled in a certain way. If the cement factory is approved, we shall open law suits against the Turkish Republic at AIHM. It has been ascertained that 800 foreign nationals bought villas at İncirköy at an approximate value of 300 million dollars. Anna Özberk, who is a resident at İncirköy, spoke as follows: This is a heavenly place. We left our country to settle here because we were fascinated with the location. It is now our new country. And now a ÇED report is drawn up in favour of the establishment or a 5 million dollar cement factory. As 800 foreign nationals, we have bought 350 houses spending 200 million pounds. Isnt this considered an investment? It is intended to destroy this heavenly location by legal means. A cement factory causes cancer. In other words, Turkey tells us, Either go away or stay and suffer from cancer. |
