The Yediler Monastery, adorned with frescoes of Jesus Christ and his 12 disciples, located at the Beşparmak Mountains overlooking the Gölyaka Village of Milas, is getting worn out daily and will collapse unless preventive measures are taken.

This area , with the panorama of the BAFA Lake is visited by thousands of tourists every year and is renowned for its natural beauty, is reached by a walk of approximately 3 hours. On the other hand, the caves discovered in the region by German archaeologists with the oldest human figures in history are noteworthy. The areas at Kapıkırı ands Gölyaka are considered as sanctuaries by the Christians and are visited especially by expatriates. There are ruins of a monastery, a church and walls of a citadel built in the 7th century A.D. The most significant of these ruins is the fresco of Jesus Christ and his 12 disciples discovered in the cavity of a rock at an altitude of about 5 metres. Although this 1,230 year-old fresco has withstood the passage of time, because it was made of lime stone and due to weather conditions, it is observed that the faces of especially Jesus Christ and disciples are wearing out.
