Migros displays an environmental consciousness for the first time in Turkey, which could constitute an example for other companies. You can now use dissolvable plastic bags provided by Migros for your purchases from the Fethiye branch. According to information we have obtained from the Director of Fethiye Migros, Caner Özdağ, the plastic shopping bags used in the shop are labelled as “100 per cent dissolvable in nature”. When disposed of in natural conditions, the bags break into pieces by the micro-organisms as well as by humidity, sunrays, heat and oxygen and are dissolved biologically within 12-24 months.
The bags are produced by using a new technology, opening a new era in Turkey. The plastic bags made of raw petroleum products take at least 100 years to be dissolved. The present bags of Migros are made of “oxo-bio dissolvable” material and dissolves in two phases.
During the first phase, dissolution takes place with oxygen which is accelerated by the heat, light, humidity and mechanical factors and the plastic is broken into tiny pieces, nourishing micro-organisms
In the second phase, the biological dissolution occurs and the plastic matter is eaten up and disposed of by the bacteria and micro-organisms in the soil.
Pursuant to dissolution in natural conditions and getting oxidized in open and sheltered areas, the oxo-bio-dissolvable bags turn into carbon dioxide and water with no harmful residues and contribute to ecological balance.
