Bio-ethanol Car on Display in Turkey
Category: TechnologyAdd Time: Kas 30th, 2009Author: adminSaab, the Swedish luxury car maker, has introduced a new model running on bioethanol fuel to Turkey and other countries. Compared to a similar model with a petrol engine, the price for this model is 1,500 higher. Saabs 9-5 Biopower was first introduced in Sweden, said Ceyhan Eryalaz, Saabs head manager for business development. He added that it was brought to Turkey for a test drive with the environment minister. Bioethanol is a fuel product obtained from corn and sugar cane, but it is not available in Turkey, said Eryalaz. The cars technical documents are all set. They can be ordered. It can work with unleaded petrol, but there will then be a decrease in horsepower of 30. Saab is not widely known as a car maker in Turkey, said Eryalaz, however: Saabs sales have been on the increase since 2005. This years target is to sell 230 cars. Over our first nine months, Saab sold 180 cars. Saab cars with a 1.9 liter diesel engine constitute 90 percent of sales. No car with a 1.6 liter engine is a recurring problem for us. Saab has a reputation for being preferred by oil sheiks. To obtain bio-ethanol fuel in Turkey, consisting of 85 percent ethyl alcohol and 15 percent unleaded gasoline, Opel, the Ankara dealer for U.S. car company GM, has plans already underway to construct a factory.
