SCHOOLS PAINTING COMPETITION
Over the last two weeks we have visited 16 schools in the Çaliş and Fethiye area to invite the students to take part in a painting competition to design a picture for the posters which will advertise the carnival based on the theme Summer, Sun and the Sea.
The competition which has the approval of Fethiye Belediyes Director of Education, closes on Friday 4 April when the winners from the four age groups will be selected by a panel of judges, including the schools arts adviser and local artist Keith Fordham. These four pictures will then be professionally printed as posters.
The four winners and the second and third placed entrants in each category will all receive prizes of gold coins. All of the pictures will be displayed in the Exhibition area on Carnival Day.
If any company would like to sponsor the cost of printing these posters which will be distributed across the whole of the Mugla area, in return for advertising their name on the posters, please contact 0535 8554919.
PRINCE AND PRINCESS COMPETITION
The schools have also been asked to nominate a boy and a girl from each school, aged between 8 and 14, who they think should be crowned as Carnival Prince and Princess. This nomination will not be based on looks or academic success but because the children have overcome some difficulty in their lives or have set a good example to the other students. The winners, who will lead the carnival parade in their own decorated float, will be selected by a panel of judges at the Fethiye Cultural Centre on 11 April. All 32 of the nominated children will receive prizes of school bags, books and writing materials. The two winners will each receive a new Geotech Bicycle courtesy of Delta Bike and More, Fethiye. They will also be provided with Prince and Princess costumes by Taurean Properties Estate Agency, which will be theirs to keep at the end of the carnival.
