LET US ALL “EMBRACE” IN ÇALİŞ

Every Wednesday morning between 11.00. and 13.00 at the BAMBU and BUS STOP restaurants along the Çaliş promenade there is a coffee morning and sale of second
hand clothes and other items for charity. This is held every week throughout the year, except August due to the heat. This event offers a wonderful chance to meet up with friends, make new acquaintances and do some good for the community. Delicious home made cakes are sold by the slice and every lira goes to a good cause.
“EMBRACE” CHARITY was born three years ago due to the good idea of Mavis Simpson. She simply had items to dispose of and other likeminded friends offered their unwanted belongings too! The goods were sold and proceeds donated to charity.
This idea has now expanded and there is usually a good selection of ladies, gents and children’s clothes and shoes. There are many other bits and bobs and a selection of second hand books, CD’s and cassettes.
Due to the efforts of Mavis and her kind hearted friends, which also includes every person who either donates or purchases, 13,700 TL was raised in the last 11 months. Down to the nitty gritty, what has happened to this money? Last year help was given to “SON ATELİM”, a day school for physically and mentally handicapped adults and children. Embrace purchased a large quantity of urgently needed adult diapers and craft materials. Two extra wide physiotherapy beds on casters and two matching stools to enable the physiotherapists to work more efficiently were provided. The school decided to order a very special piece of gym equipment from Russia and managed to reduce the price to 8,000 TL and raised 2,000 TL themselves. The remaining balance of 6,000 TL was supplied by us. From this year’s total, a donation of 3,000 TL went to a new pre school in Günlükbaşı to supply aircon units. A further 2,000 TL was given for bursaries for needy students.
Our intention this year is to concentrate on supplying spectacles for every child who needs them. We hope to cover a wider area including as far as Kaş which also falls within the province of Muğla. Wherever there is a need we are happy to try and help
and willing to listen to any ideas and suggestions. Donations of unwanted items are always required and we would be most grateful for them. If they need collecting please ring Mavis on 0536 791 9877.
The Çaliş seafront is a very attractive and inspiring venue in which to make things really happen. You can even have a stroll along the beach on a winter day and swim if you are brave enough. We want to create a little bit of heaven on earth SO PLEASE COME AND JOIN US! All donations TRULY gratefully received, even if it is just the money for a piece of cake!
